Horn of Africa Employment Services (HAES) has operated successfully since 2005. During this period the company has operated as a Job Placement Organisation (JPO). HAES works closely with the local community, particularly people from West Africa (Sierre Leone, Liberia and Ghana), Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia) and the Middle East (Iraq, Iran and Syria) and Afghanistan. It operates in the ESA of South West Brisbane. Although based in the ESA of South West Brisbane, HAES attracts its clientele from the much broader area of Brisbane as a whole as well as South East Queensland. Additionally, clients also contact HAES from interstate, having heard good reports about the level of service provided and the outcomes achieved by its clients in terms of employment, training and settlement support.

In 2007, HAES placed approximately 300 people in work, most in full-time employment. As a result, HAES was awarded the Queensland Multicultural Award for small business in 2007. The award recommendation states “The staff at Horn of Africa Services has excelled in proactively approaching employers to advocate on behalf of disadvantaged job seekers, which has resulted in a trusting relationship with those in need”.
